When it comes to young kids, it’s going to be tough to get them to pose just how you want. Take your time, always set aside a little extra time for these shoots. As you already know, babies do what the want because, umm, they are babies. It is easier to change what you are doing then to try to change them. So don’t be afraid to let them crawl around and have fun. Make sure to position your lighting according to the babies location, don’t position the baby to your lighting, they hate that.
Image 1. For me I like this image because of a few things. One the composition. the baby is off to the left of the frame and to the right is a very soft glow. The eyes are very sharp and the color has been bumped up just slightly in photoshop. I think that when selling images the eyes of babies are going to be key. Make sure you focus on the eyes. This image was shot with a 50mm at f/3.5
Image 2. Of course I like the expression in this photo. The baby looks happy and content. I made this image black and white because there was no really color that popped out at me originally. I say if it’s not “ALL” about the color, it should be black and white. This image was shot with an 85mm at 1.8
Image 3. I like this image because of the soft orange glow that surrounded the baby. The composition has the her eyes just off center. I felt this was a great expression.
Image 4. I like this one because it is a pose in motion. We laid the baby down on some pillows and just let her have fun. I shot this with a 50mm at f/1.4 That created a nice shallow depth of field that draws the viewer in to the subject.
Image 5. This image was shot with the same lens at f5.6 This allowed for more of the frame to be in focus. I like this because of the expression.
