TPP: Tell us a little about yourself.
TW: Hi – I’m Tammy Warnock and I’m a full time photographer in Los Alamitos
California. I photograph a lot of families and boudoir with a few weddings a
year. I started doing boudoir by accident when a few friends and I got
together when I was 20 to photograph each other. We had so much fun that I
was hooked and couldn’t wait to do more. I’m now 41 and still get excited
every single time I do a boudoir session. (I’ve been known to jump up and
down with glee over an image that I just took. I’m sure that my clients
either think I’m fun, nuts or a combination of both.)
TPP: How important is photoshop?
TW: With digital, I believe that photoshop is a necessary part of a
photographer’s tool kit. However I do believe that it can be overused and
that some photographers rely on it to fix issues that could have been easily
fixed in camera by taking the time to really make sure that the posing and
details are right on. Since I love to photograph people and hate to sit in
front of a computer, I do my best to make sure that my files are as close to
right as possible. Good, clean, beautiful photography is what I strive for.
TPP: Do you think it’s important to know how to pose your clients?
TW: I think that posing is one of the most important things to do well when
photographing people. The difference between a good pose and a poor one can
be something as simple as stretching up a tad more, adjusting clothing or
even just having the client take a deep breath to become more comfortable.
It’s really easy once you learn to watch for and fix the little things.
Making your client comfortable is also a big part of posing. When they are
relaxed and happy, you can see it in their entire bodies.
TPP: What is your biggest challenge when photographing boudoir?
TW: Truthfully it’s finding new poses for my plus sized clients. There are some
poses that work better on certain body types than others. I have a really
good variety of poses that work on every body type but I like to add new
poses often to keep things fresh, fun and different.
TPP: Where do you draw your inspiration?
TW: People watching is my best inspiration. Women always tell me that they can’t
be sexy. They don’t realize that they don’t have to try to be sexy; they
already are. Watching people move, walk, talk & interact very often gives me
great inspiration for my sessions. I also love looking at Vogue, Elle and
Vanity Fair.
TPP: What is your most successful advertising?
TW: Word of mouth, networking and Facebook
TPP: Canon or Nikon?
TW: Canon. I use an original 5D and my favorite lens is the 85mm 1.2
TPP: Are prints being done in by facebook?
TW: I do think that the digital age has made many people feel that digital files- even small ones – are good enough. We still sell a lot of prints andalbums because we make sure people know that digital isn’t forever. Discs degrade, hard drives crash and servers fail. We tell our clients that some day when they are long gone that we want their Grandchildren to find their prints and albums, smile big and say “Hey look! My Grandma was HOT!”. We also give watermarked web files of every image ordered specifically for Facebook, digital frames and for loading on their sweetie’s phone.
TPP: Introvert or Extravert
TW: I’m both actually!
