  1. So you say, they purchase the package for $ 2000.- but then you tell about you get 1000.- retainer, 1000.- 90 prior to wedding, 1000.- 30 days prior to the wedding. that in my books are $ 3000.- and not $ 2000.- am I missing something ? Also, what do you write in that package then ? 8 hours, 1 photographer, album credit $ 1000.-
thanks, I wish I stumbled over your website a year ago. Great infos, thanks for taking all of your time to put this online for others to learn, it is greatly appreciated. You should continue to teach, I think you have a very easy way of making things easy to understand for everyone.
    Thanks !!

  2. Hey Steve, thanks for the comment!
Yes you are right, the package price in $2000. The extra $1,000 is a credit towards an album. The package is laid out just like this.

    8 Hours Coverage
    Engagement Session (one file)
    Hi Res Dvd
    Online Proofing
    $1,000 Album credit
    ~$3,000

I also will not book a client who does not want an album.

Thanks so much for the compliments, If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Very interesting article and a great approach. I will seriously consider working something like this into my pricing.

And also, nice reference to Seth Godin. ;)

  4. I have heard a lot of photographers RAVE about this type of pricing structure. I have always been tempted to do so as well, but very intimidated, not due to the concept necessarily, but due to expecting the couple to have extra money to spend after the wedding; also, most of my bride’s photography budget is covered by her parents. Plus the pricing seems to be quite high (gouging perhaps). I really would like to add some extra cash because my post-wedding sales is basically null. I am not trying to be negative here, but I am just expressing my ideas and fears. Any advice or comments would be appreciated : )

  5. Thanks Travis! I’ve actually started implementing this into my business plan… can’t wait to actually try it out!

  6. Hey Ron,
Let me ask you this. What happens to the brides money after the wedding? I assume they do not quit their jobs simply because they are now married. They will spend money on plenty of things, why not have them spend it with you. They may not be able to fork over 2k cash a week after the wedding. But you have other options, like excepting credit cards or taking payments.
