Professional Cameras
It’s time to invest in your business. These cameras will not make you a better photographer, but they will help you in your business. Remember these are only tools, it is up to you to make the photos, not the camera.
This is one of the most popular cameras for wedding photographers because of it’s ability to capture images in low light. It also has the ability to capture video which is becoming very popular because of a thing called “fusion” ( a new idea that allows photographers to add video to their lists of products.
Canon Eos 1d mark IV $4,999.95
This camera is a true work horse and if you are shooting 50 plus weddings a year this is the one to have. It will shoot 10 frames per second and it also has the ability to capture video. This is an upgrade from the 5d mark II and will give you a nice advantage in the photography industry.
Perhaps Nikon is more your style? If so this D700 is the equivalent to the Canon 5D mark II. In the past nikon has had a problem in low light situations, but they have really stepped it up with the D700. Now having a CMOS sensor and Nikons amazing focusing capabilities this camera is quickly finding a home in many camera bags.
My goodness, look at the price tag on that! If you are looking to buy this camera you don’t need a review. You know just what you are looking for. This thing has 24.5 megapixels and a whole lot of other stuff, this thing is off the charts.
Point and Shoot Cameras
These cameras are great to take to the beach or to the amusement park. I always keep one in my car, just in case. By having a point and shoot I always have access to a camera and don’t have to risk my “dslr’s” being stolen while I’m getting groceries or something. With the right person behind these cameras they will take a photo just as good as a camera that costs $5,000
If you want the features of an DSLR but the connivence of a Point and Shoot. The Canon G11 is able to capture Raw files has a 2.8″ color LCD screen and with it’s 10 megapixels you can take a photo for your local billboard company.
This camera has a aperture that will go as low as f/2.0, that is pretty nice. Having an aperture like that will give you the ability to take photos in low light. Or get those nice out of focus backgrounds while keeping the subject tack sharp.
This camera jumps it up by 2.1 megapixels for a total of 12.1 mp and if you have superman eyes you just might notice that in the picture. Now here is the cool thing about this camera it shoots 15 frames per second in sports mode and has Image Stabilization.
Olympus E-P1 $749.95 (my favorite)
This one is my favorite I just love the look of the camera, you can change the lenses it shoots stills and video, and a stainless steel body. This camera is COOL MAN.
Sick of shutter lag here is a point and shoot that has a shutter lag of 0.005 seconds. This thing also has a wide dynamic ranges so you wont blow out the highlights and your shadow detail will still be there.

I have a Nikon D60 and I knw is not a “professional” camera but I am not a professional photographer, however I do enjoy taking pictures and do so for friends and family. I have read a lot of helpfull tips and critiqs here and I wanted to thank you for that. now my question i guess would be, is that a “good enough” camera for wedding photos, family portraits and such? I have a SB600 flash, a 18mm to 55mm & 55mm to 200mm lens for it, but I cant really afford anything else. I am about to do a wedding for a girl I know who cant afford a professional photographer so she asked if I could do it for her and wanted to know what other tips you could give for wedding photography…thanks a lot! I will submit a photo of the last wedding I went to and took som pictures. but since I read your “camera basics” i feel i have learned a little more and will try it out on the next weddng.
