Word of Mouth Marketing

This is the story of two excellent products; one I will talk about to all my friends and spread the word as much as I can. The other, I will not.
The most recent thing I purchased was a flip video. I purchased this small hand-held video camera and told everyone I knew about it. I spread the word and became a walking commercial for the flip video. Now, the people I was telling about the flip video were people who trusted me, they trusted me because they knew me, because I was their friend. People are WAY more likely to buy a product because a friend and not a commercial recommended it.
As a matter of fact, I bought the flip video because an it was recommended by someone I trusted, this is word of mouth marketing at it’s best.
When my friend spoke of this product he was very excited and enthusiastic. He spoke of the quality, and of the low price. But, I didn’t care about the quality, or the price, I cared about his enthusiasm, and the excitement in his voice. He had me sold before I even seen it, the product had very little to do with my decision. That night I went home an ordered one.
Once I received the product in the mail I could see where his enthusiasm was coming from. This was definitely the coolest and easiest video camera I have ever used. It was designed so simply and easy to use, yet it recorded in HD and looked amazing. There is one big red button on the back, press it to start recording, press it again to stop. When you are all finished making the video, flip out the easy to use usb connector built into the video camera plug it into the usb port on your computer and drag and drop. You are done! Flip video satisfied my want for an easy to use cool video camera that anyone can use. They sold a product and I am a happy customer. I will tell everyone I know for the simple fact that I feel cool because I have one.
Now lets talk about the other product I purchased. It was a pair of LAMO slippers, by far the best pair of slippers I have ever owned. They are really warm and ultra comfy on my feet. They are super high quality and cost around $70, and this is how they market them. Ultra high quality slippers made with the finest Australian sheepskins. But guess what, I won’t be telling anyone about my slippers. Why not you ask. Well slippers aren’t something guys talk about. I could see myself now walking up to a group of my friends and saying “hey guys I got these new slippers, and the feel oh so comfy on my tootsies”. I would be laughed out of the room.
So what I am saying is that LAMO Footwear have a great product. But it is hard to get people talking about slippers. You don’t see people getting excited that their toes are extra warm. But the flip video, that is something almost everyone can get excited about. It is the age of youtube and facebook. Everyone has a chance to get five minutes of fame, and with this simple to use camera they can. They have created a product people want to talk about, that can be used by a large group of people. LAMO Footwear has created a great product that most everyone would love, but the word will not be spread nearly as quick. I would also like you to take a look at each products website and see which one gets you more excited. Flip Video — LAMO
So the point behind this article is this. Create a product your clients want to talk about, make them be excited to tell other people about it, and the word will spread faster than if you were relaying simply on the quality of your product to do the marketing for you.

LAMO did create an awesome product. This is the first time I mentioned them, but I have mentioned the flip video many times.
